Hotel Rawanda

Whoever hasn't seen Hotel Rawanda needs to as soon as you can. I'm serious, we have to be aware of what is going on in the world. We have to care. It's atrocious, sickening, and so so so tragic. I cried all the way through the movie but was very moved by it. I don't understand how people can hate so much. It's good to think about it though, dwell on it, and pray about it.

Hey Pammy,

I just got around to checking your blog after a long spell. Great job keeping it interesting. I really have to agree about hotel Rawanda. I knew quite a bit about what happened there from previous reading, but the movie really brought it home.

I started thinking about all the spots in the world where genocide has occurred or is occurring: Sudan, Cambodia, Russia during Stalin, Germany during Hitler, American Indians in the 19th century, and the list goes on and on. One thing every one seems to have in common is they find some reason to view their "enemy" as less than human. Even in Russia during Stalin, human life was devalued compared to the life of the "state". So that made it o.k. to kill people for the sake of the state. Same in Cambodia. Elsewhere, race, religion, tribe, or whatever can be used as the reason to treat someone as less than human. And of course, if you happen to be a fetus, you can get labeled less than human if the mom or Chinese population police decide that they don't want you to live. Otherwise, everyone refers to you as the baby in mama's tummy.
